RRC Associates worked with a group of stakeholders earlier this year to evaluate visitor use and parking management issues at Quandary Peak in Summit County, Colorado. Shortly after completion of the project, a parking reservation and shuttle system began at the mountain.
According to the article on Summit Daily, Summit County Sheriff Jamie FitzSimons said about 3,200 people have used the parking reservations system and over 20,000 hikers rode the shuttle. Regulation also increased with a total of 327 citations for illegally parked vehicles.
With the success of this pilot program, the reservation system and shuttle are likely to continue next year. As crowded outdoor recreation sites increase across the state, it is also likely that more organizations will look towards a similar management program.
