Eagle County has hired RRC Associates and Economic & Planning Systems to determine the need for regulating short-term rentals. David Becher, RRC Associates’ Director of Research, told the commissioners 14% of the housing stock in Unincorporated Eagle County is short-term rentals, which is lower than most of the other counties in the resort region. He also mentioned since 2017 the number of short-term rentals remained somewhat stable.
When asked if homes would remain vacant if they did not have short-term renters, Becher said if they weren’t rented nightly, the units would stay out of the long-term rental market. Most of the short-term rentals are located in Beaver Creek.
Another work session about short-term rentals will be held in January or February.
